Role

St Georges Road Primary School is seeking a welcoming, organised and community-minded person to join our administration team as a School Receptionist and Multicultural Education Aide.

This is a dual-purpose position. The successful applicant will provide professional reception and administrative support while also helping the school communicate and build strong relationships with students and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Applicants must be able to communicate confidently in Arabic, Dari or both, as the role will regularly support families who use these languages. Strong spoken and written English is also essential.

The successful applicant will often be the first person students, families and visitors meet when they contact or enter the school.



We are therefore looking for someone who is warm, respectful, calm under pressure and committed to providing excellent service to every member of our community.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

- welcome students, families, staff and visitors to the school
- answer telephone calls, respond to enquiries and direct people to the appropriate staff member
- provide general reception and administrative support
- assist with student attendance, late arrivals, early departures and visitor sign-in procedures
- support enrolment processes and help families understand school forms, procedures and expectations
- communicate with Arabic- and/or Dari-speaking parents and carers
- provide language and cultural support during meetings, information sessions and school events
- assist staff to communicate important information to families
- help newly arrived families understand the Victorian education system and become connected with the school
- maintain accurate records and protect confidential information
- work collaboratively with teaching, wellbeing, leadership and administration staff
- contribute to a welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe school environment.

Other Information

You will be well suited to this position if you:

- speak Arabic, Dari or both
- have strong spoken and written English
- have excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills
- are confident using computers and common office programs
- can manage competing priorities in a busy school office
- communicate calmly and respectfully in sensitive or challenging situations
- understand the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- can develop positive relationships with children, families and staff
- have an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, Victorian government school processes
- value cultural diversity and have a strong commitment to inclusion and community engagement.

Previous experience in a school, reception, administration, interpreting, community services or multicultural education role would be highly regarded.
