For more than 50 years, Karakan has supported people across South East Queensland through recovery-oriented mental health, psychosocial, disability, youth and community services. Following significant organisational growth and a strengthened sector reputation, Karakan is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation through its next phase of impact, maturity and sustainability. This is not a growth-at-all-costs opportunity. Karakan has built a reputation as a trusted partner to government and community stakeholders through innovation, community connection and the ability to identify unmet needs and develop practical, sustainable solutions. The next CEO will continue this legacy, ensuring the organisation remains strongly positioned for the future while maintaining the culture and values that have underpinned its success. Supported by a high-functioning Board with deep industry expertise, this is a rare opportunity to lead a respected human services organisation at an important point in its evolution. Bringing a strategic, whole-of-systems lens and a deep understanding of community outcomes, the incoming CEO will guide considered growth aligned to Karakan's mission, capability and community need. Key Deliverables

Successfully lead implementation of Karakan's significant service contracts, embedding the governance, accreditation, compliance and organisational readiness required for long-term success. Preserve and strengthen Karakan's values-driven culture, building sustainable people and leadership capability, workforce engagement and succession pathways across the organisation. Maintain and enhance Karakan's position as a trusted partner to government,



community stakeholders and funding bodies through strong relationships, advocacy and sector influence. Act as a bridge between community need and government priorities, identifying emerging opportunities and developing innovative responses to complex community challenges. Anticipate future community need and influence government thinking, developing the relationships and partnerships that position Karakan for sustainable new opportunities over the longer term. About You

You are an accomplished, values-led executive who combines strategic vision, commercial acumen and strong people leadership with a genuine commitment to community outcomes. You are an innovative strategist and natural relationship builder, recognised as a problem solver who identifies opportunities where others see barriers and brings a whole-of-systems perspective to complex challenges. You understand the power of partnerships and the role organisations like Karakan play in responding to unmet community need, bringing together government, community and sector stakeholders to create practical, sustainable solutions. You have a robust track record of building organisational capability, developing high-performing teams and planning for succession, while preserving culture and strengthening governance and accountability. You value lived experience, recovery-oriented practice and person-centred service delivery. Whether your background has been gained in mental health, psychosocial recovery, disability, NDIS, child and family services, community housing, place-based delivery or a related human services environment, you will bring the credibility, judgement and values alignment required to lead Karakan into its next chapter.
