About The Role Barwon Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) is one of Victoria’s most innovative and integrated regional services, providing end-to-end care across the lifespan. We provide integrated, recovery-oriented mental health and AOD services to the Barwon region.

Role We are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists to join our service across a range of clinical areas. Unlike traditional roles, we offer flexible alignment to your subspecialty interests, including (subject to availability):

Adult Community Mental Health

Acute Inpatient Services

Aged Psychiatry

Youth and Early Intervention

Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services

This approach enables you to practice at the top of your scope, while contributing to a system undergoing major co-designed reform under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic).

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric assessment, treatment and care planning





Deliver clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams, supporting secure and effective care

Contribute to service development, innovation and system redesign initiatives

Act as a delegate of the Authorised Psychiatrist in line with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic)

Support and supervise junior medical staff and trainees (where accredited)

Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and risk management activities

Build strong partnerships with consumers, carers and community services

What We Are Looking For

Fellowship-qualified (FRANZCP) or equivalent

Registered (or eligible) with AHPRA for specialist or general registration

Committed to recovery-oriented, consumer-centred care

Able to contribute to clinical leadership and team capability

Motivated to be part of a service undergoing significant reform and innovation
