Role description

Arcadis is growing its Civil Infrastructure business in Queensland, and we are seeking an experienced Design Manager – Roads to lead the successful delivery of major TMR projects and D&C; programs. This is a Level 9 leadership role suited to a high-performing individual who not only leads design delivery, but sets direction, mentors teams, and influences how infrastructure is delivered across Queensland.

Role accountabilities

As Design Manager – Roads, you will take accountability for the planning, coordination and successful delivery of design across major projects, ensuring outcomes that are safe, buildable, compliant and commercially sound.

You will

- Lead design delivery across major road infrastructure projects (concept to detailed design)
- Plan and manage design programmes, resources and multidisciplinary integration
- Drive technical excellence across civil, drainage, structures, utilities and traffic disciplines
- Ensure compliance with TMR standards, PAF processes and project criteria
- Lead risk, optioneering and constructability workshops
- Provide technical leadership and oversight of complex road design solutions
- Work closely with Project Directors and Managers to ensure time, cost and quality outcomes
- Oversee digital design delivery, including BIM and model-based coordination
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers, strengthening team capability and succession
- Support bids, proposals and client engagement to drive pipeline growth

Qualification & Experience

We are seeking a leader who combines technical depth,



delivery excellence and commercial awareness :

- 12+ years’ experience in road / civil infrastructure design delivery
- Demonstrated experience delivering TMR or equivalent transport authority projects
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams across all project stages
- Strong understanding of TMR standards, PAF, and approval pathways
- Experience managing design scope, programme, budget and risk
- Ability to develop and deliver complex, non-standard technical solutions (L9 expectation)
- Strong stakeholder management across clients, contractors and internal teams
- Commercial acumen and experience supporting bids and work winning
- Track record of mentoring, coaching and developing high-performing teams

Leadership at Level 9 (Arcadis)

- Provide technical leadership beyond project level, influencing standards and best practice
- Lead complex, high-risk design solutions and outcomes
- Drive innovation in tools, processes and delivery methods
- Contribute to the development of the broader road design capability
- Be recognised as a technical leader within the discipline
