The role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Analytics Specialist to join our growing data team. This role will be responsible for delivering high quality Power BI data models and intuitive self‑serve dashboards. This role will work closely with teams in Data, Asset Services, other business stakeholders and external vendors to drive implementation, training, adoption and innovation of our Enterprise Data Analytics platform, as well as other business prioritised projects.
Your key responsibilities
- Build, transform and maintain robust Power BI data semantic models, using DAX and Power Query, integrating data from Azure Databricks in alignment with best Data Governance and coding practices.
- Design and deliver intuitive, self‑service Power BI dashboards that surface insights to empower business stakeholders with quicker and more accurate data‑driven decisions.
- Incorporate modelling and visualisation best practices for optimised user experience and maintaining platform performance.
- Collaborate with external vendors to guide and incorporate reporting solution best practices in YVW's evolving Enterprise Data Analytics Platform.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Data,
Asset and Retail services and others to define and translate reporting project needs that support customer‑focused strategies and operational goals into reporting solutions.
- Support upskilling and reporting solution adoption through fostering strong relationships across the business, updating user guides and running user training sessions on BI tools, semantic models and self‑serve analytics.
- Manage project releases, deployments, and BAU support for analytics platforms, while providing advanced troubleshooting and Level 3 support.
- Identify and present insights to business stakeholders to influence business decisions and improve water asset management.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the enterprise data strategy and relevant project streams, ensuring solutions align with strategic goals and data governance standards.
What we're looking for
- Extensive experience designing and developing enterprise‑grade, self‑service dashboards and reports using Power BI or equivalent BI tools, with a focus on usability, scalability, and performance. (8+ years highly desirable)
- Strong expertise in Power BI data modelling, including DAX, Power Query, and dashboard/report design to support intuitive and impactful analytics solutions.
- Skilled in translating business requirements into compelling data visualisations, data storytelling, and well‑defined KPIs, driving alignment between analytics and business goals.
- Experience with Power BI dataflows and seamless integration with Azure Databricks or similar cloud‑based data platforms for scalable and automated data transformation pipelines.
- Proficient in SQL for efficient data extraction, transformation, analysis,
and validation in both operational and analytical contexts.
- Hands‑on experience with asset management platforms and delivering analytics tailored to asset management, supporting use cases such as asset performance, lifecycle tracking, and operational optimisation.
- Delivered engaging training and enablement programs to enhance data model literacy, BI tool proficiency, and foster wider reporting adoption across business units.
- Cooperative in working with stakeholders and SMEs to define reporting requirements, manage expectations and project timelines, ensure data relevance, and deliver actionable insights aligned with business strategy.
