About the Role:
The Bionics Institute is seeking a dedicated Histology Technician to join our Histology In-Vitro Team (HIT).

In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting histological and in vitro data analysis, contributing to our mission of innovative medical research. You’ll be responsible for the collection, preparation, and analysis of histological data, as well as providing essential technical support to ensure the smooth operation of our laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role will be determined by the incumbents relevant training and experience.

- Collect and analyse data, this will include histological preparation of tissue specimens (fixation, sectioning and storing), tissue staining, digital image capturing, performance of cell-line and biochemical assays, and analysis of collected histological and in-vitro data.





- Provide specialised technical services in the laboratory including whole mount/ex vivo tissue preparation; operation of specialised equipment and image analysis software; laboratory and equipment maintenance and ordering of consumables.

- Capture images and collect histological data under guidance.

- Operate specialized equipment (e.g., microscopes) and utilize image analysis software.

- Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring all consumables are stocked.

- Organize and manage histological data, including laboratory notebooks and electronic records.

- Provide training and support to staff and students on histological techniques and equipment usage.

Essential Skills:

- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g., pathology or histology) or equivalent experience.

- Knowledge of immunohistochemistry or histopathology practices.

- Proven ability to adhere to standard operating procedures and OHS guidelines.

- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with effective communication abilities.

Desired Skills:

- Familiarity with image analysis software, such as ImageJ.

- Skills in data analysis using statistical analysis tools and reporting on research findings
