Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a passionate and experienced Bushcare Officer to join our Parks and Natural Areas team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the conservation and restoration of local bushland while working closely with our dedicated Bushcare volunteers and community groups.

As a Bushcare Officer, you will play a key role in improving the condition, resilience and long-term sustainability of Council's natural areas through bush regeneration, weed management, revegetation and habitat restoration activities. You will also help foster community stewardship by supporting, training and engaging volunteers in caring for their local environment.

What you'll do

- Plan and deliver bush regeneration and environmental restoration programs.
- Coordinate weed management, revegetation and habitat improvement works.
- Supervise, support and engage Bushcare volunteers and community groups.
- Deliver environmental education, training and community engagement activities.
- Monitor bushland condition and contribute to restoration planning and reporting.
- Ensure all work is undertaken safely and in accordance with Council policies, procedures and environmental standards.

About you

You will bring hands-on experience in bush regeneration and a genuine passion for caring for the natural environment. A strong communicator with a customer-focused mindset, you'll enjoy working closely with community groups, volunteers, contractors and internal teams to achieve great outcomes. Your ability to build positive relationships, encourage community involvement and contribute to meaningful environmental projects will help create lasting benefits for both Council and the community.

Essential requirements:

- Certificate III - Conservation & Ecosystem Management (Conservation & Land Management) or Equivalent
- AQF3 Chemical Application qualification.
- NSW White Card.
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- Demonstrated experience in bush regeneration and environmental restoration.




- Experience supervising bush regeneration activities and volunteers.
- Solid communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Knowledge of safe work practices, chemical handling, and the operation of specialised plant and equipment.

Desirable:

- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Conservation, Horticulture or a related field.
- Experience managing environmental grants and contractors.

- Package: $78,717 - $83,439 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Permanent Full Time, working 38 hours per week, 9 day fortnight. Working week is Wednesday to Sunday (weekend penalty rates apply).
