The Regional Council of Goyder, based in the historic town of Burra, is 164 kms (two hours) north of Adelaide and set in an idyllic location surrounded by productive pastoral land and an extensive and rich history. With numerous townships, Goyder has a total Council population of just over 4,000.

The Council is seeking an experienced, senior finance professional to manage and lead a range of functions including all finance activities including budgets and long-term plans, managing, and reporting to the CEO and Council. In addition, the role has responsibility for information technology, corporate governance, records, administration and management of Council owned commercial facilities. The Director of Finance is part of the leadership team contributing to the overall management of the Council and supporting the role of the Elected Members.

The key responsibilities include:

· Financial management, annual budget and business plan and financial reporting

· Long term financial plan incorporating Council assets

· Leadership of teams managing finance, administration, payroll, HR and compliance

· Managing Council’s suite of information technology assets





· Preparation of annual finance statements, statutory returns and managing external audit

· Comprehensive reporting to the CEO, Leadership Team and Elected Members.

Applicants must have degree qualifications in finance, or closely related field, and extensive experience in senior management roles within local government, a complex multi-functional organisation or professional services. Applicants will be experienced in all facets of budgeting, financial controls, long term plans and financial policies, procedures and systems. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills combined with robust leadership, flexibility, planning, problem solving and implementing innovation solutions are a must. A positive, can-do attitude combined with effective leadership is critical.
