About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead our Port Melbourne laboratory within our Caleb Brett business.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone who is passionate about operational excellence, safety, quality, and developing high-performing teams. You'll play a key role in ensuring our laboratory delivers exceptional service to clients while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
As the Laboratory Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the laboratory, ensuring testing services are delivered safely, accurately, and on time. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, manage laboratory resources, oversee quality systems, and contribute to business growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance technical oversight, people leadership, client engagement, and operational management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a diverse laboratory team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure laboratory operations meet client expectations for quality, turnaround times and technical excellence.
- Maintain compliance with ISO standards, NATA accreditation requirements and Intertek's Quality Management System.
- Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration and resource planning.
- Drive operational efficiency through process improvements and workflow optimisation.
- Manage laboratory budgets and support sound commercial decision-making.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, responding promptly to customer enquiries.
- Identify opportunities for business growth and support new service development.
- Champion workplace health, safety and environmental compliance across all laboratory activities.
- Coach, mentor and develop employees through regular feedback and performance management.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Previous leadership experience managing a laboratory or technical testing workplace.
- A qualification in Applied Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, ISO 17025 and regulatory compliance.
- Experience leading teams and creating a positive, high-performance culture.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A continuous improvement mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
