ABOUT THE ROLES

Peer Workers are at the heart of what we do, making up 50% of our multidisciplinary team. Bringing the power of lived experience in distress, crisis and recovery, you’ll create a welcoming, safe space for visitors while providing meaningful 1:1 peer support.

You’ll empower people with clear information about their rights and options, advocate for their needs, and help them reconnect with their strengths, hope, and community. Working within strong skilled boundaries, you’ll model recovery-oriented, trauma-informed practice every day.

Senior Peer Workers bring lived experience leadership to the forefront, playing a key role in shaping safe, supportive and recovery-focused care. Beyond direct support, you’ll mentor and guide the peer workforce through training, debriefing and reflective practice, strengthening capability across the team.

This role is fixed term until 30 June 2027 with an opportunity to extend subject to funding.

ABOUT THE CENTRE

Open 365 days a year, the Medicare Mental Health Centre offers a welcoming, low-stigma entry point for people aged 16+ in distress or crisis. With no appointment required, clients can access immediate support and evidence-based care from a multidisciplinary team tailored to individual needs.

THE BENEFITS

- Competitive salary – Overtime provisions for evening, weekend and public holiday shifts.

- Salary packaging – Access benefits that can increase your take-home pay.

- Leave – Leave loading and an additional week of leave (because your wellbeing matters!).

- Innovation – Help shape the way mental health support is delivered.

- Career & Growth – Allowances for External Lived Experience Supervision and professional development.

ABOUT YOU

You embody lived experience values and bring deep empathy, trust, and non-judgemental support. You can build strong connections and walk alongside people as they take an active role in their own recovery.

We also ask that you have:

- Certificate IV in Peer Work (or willingness to work towards).
- Tertiary qualification in mental health or related discipline (highly regarded).
- Working With Children Check and National Police Check.

READY TO APPLY?

This is a lived experience designated role and is open only to people with personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery.

We’re building a team that reflects the real world and strongly encourage applications from First Nations peoples, LGBTQIA+ communities, and diverse backgrounds.
