POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Anaesthetic Clinical Nurse Educator

Position Code:

Department: Education Department and Perioperative Department

Reporting To: Education Manager in collaboration with the Perioperative Services Manager

Terms: Part Time

Remuneration: WPH Nurses and Midwives Enterprise Agreement 2021-2024

1. POSITION SUMMARY

The Education Team at Wyvern Private Hospital (WPH) provides hospital wide education that values,

supports, empowers and cares for all nursing, allied health and ancillary staff and also meets
licencing and accreditation requirements. The Anaesthetic Clinical Nurse Educator is part of the
Education team and provides a high standard of training, clinical support and assessment to all
anaesthetic nurses in the Perioperative Department at WPH.

2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The main accountability of the Anaesthetic Care Clinical Nurse Educator is to provide education,

clinical support, training and assessment to all Anaesthetic nurses in the Perioperative Department at
WPH.

Specifically, the CNE is accountable:

- To contribute to the WPH culture, vision and mission.

- To collaborate with the hospital education team and Perioperative Services Manager to assess,

plan, develop and evaluate clinical training and assessment ensuring it is relevant, suitable and
based in current industry standards within the surgical and rehabilitation nursing specialties in
order to meet learning gaps and the operational and strategic needs within the Anaesthetic

clinical setting.

- To implement the Anaesthetic orientation program providing orientation to all new Anaesthetic

nurses and ancillary staff as well as students and volunteers describing the roles and

responsibilities for safety and quality.

- To implement structured Anaesthetic education programs identifying learning needs and achieving

realistic learning experiences utilising adult learning principles and a range of educational and





learning methods to facilitate the development of individuals ensuring they deliver patient care
without compromise.

- To implement the Anaesthetic continued career development program providing structured

learning opportunities to anaesthetic nurses, allied health and ancillary staff.
- To implement the Anaesthetic assessment program providing structured assessment that ensures

competence of nurses and ancillary staff.
- To provide clinical support, mentorship and supervision to nurses and allied health utilising

advanced clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes within the anaesthetic clinical setting and make
learning adjustments when required.

- To foster an education relationship with allied health and ancillary staff from third party

providers and to provide education support, training, assessment and orientation where necessary
to ensure licencing, accreditation and industry standards needs are met.

- To report on all learning activities within the Anaesthetic department for licencing and

accreditation requirements.

4. SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES & COMPETENCIES

4.1 Essential

- Permanent work rights within Australia with no restrictions (unfortunately sponsorship is not

currently available)
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions

- Post graduate registration in Anaesthetic nursing and or Education

- A certificate IV in Training and Assessment

- A minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in Anaesthetic nursing





- A minimum of three (3) years experience as a clinical educator in Anaesthetic nursing

4.2 Desirable

- Demonstrated clinical education experience

- Advanced clinical leadership and clinical skills

- Ability to deliver clinical support, nursing education programs and training and assessment to

Anaesthetic nurses.
- A genuine passion to educate clinical staff

- A strong familiarity with NSQHS standards, other industry standards such as ACORN and

ANZCOA standards and the accreditation process
- Sound clinical decision making, problem solving, organisational, time management, communication,

computer and software program skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team

- Dedicated commitment to continuous improvement of self and others

- Proficient in the clinical software programs

5. PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION REQUIREMENTS

- Australian Health Professional Registration Agency – Nurses and Midwives Board

- NSQHS Standards

- Wyvern Private Hospital policies and procedures
