The Parts Interpreter / Estimator is responsible for identifying and sourcing parts, developing accurate repair estimates, and supporting workshop operations through effective procurement, costing, and customer communication. This role works closely with technicians, suppliers, and customers to ensure jobs are quoted accurately, parts are available when required, and work is delivered efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Quoting

- Review inspection reports, repair scopes, and customer requirements.
- Prepare detailed estimates for repairs, fabrication, maintenance, and component rebuilds.
- Identify labour, parts, consumables, and subcontractor requirements.
- Obtain supplier pricing and develop accurate costings.
- Manage quote revisions and approved variations.
- Follow up quotations to maximise conversion opportunities.

Parts Interpretation & Procurement

- Interpret parts requirements from technicians, OEM manuals, and customer enquiries.
- Source genuine and aftermarket parts from approved suppliers.
- Obtain pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
- Raise purchase orders and monitor outstanding orders.
- Coordinate urgent and breakdown-related parts procurement.

Workshop Support

- Allocate parts against jobs and work orders.
- Ensure parts are available to meet workshop scheduling requirements.
- Liaise with workshop personnel regarding job progress and additional requirements.
- Assist with identifying repair alternatives and cost-saving opportunities.
- Support efficient job planning and execution.

Inventory & Administration

- Maintain inventory records and stock accuracy.
- Assist with stocktakes and cycle counts.
- Process supplier invoices and receivables.




- Maintain purchasing, pricing, and supplier records.
- Report on inventory levels and procurement performance.

Customer & Supplier Engagement

- Respond to customer enquiries relating to repairs, maintenance, and parts.
- Explain repair scopes, estimates, and recommendations.
- Maintain robust relationships with suppliers and customers.

Skills & Experience

- Previous experience as a Parts Interpreter, Estimator, Service Advisor, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical components and repair processes.
- Experience preparing workshop quotations and cost estimates.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, parts catalogues, and workshop reports.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- High level of computer literacy and ERP/workshop management system experience.

Preferred Experience

- Heavy diesel, mining, transport, earthmoving, or industrial equipment experience.
- Mechanical trade qualification or extensive industry experience.
- Familiarity with OEM parts systems and supplier networks.
- Experience in workshop quoting and job costing.
