Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services. The campus is also home to The Kolling – a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of Emergency patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.



The Trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the doctor's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

Trainees appointed through RNSH to Emergency Medicine Training Network 2 may be required to rotate to other hospitals in the Network, notably Hornsby, Lismore, Northern Beaches.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_01. Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.

Applicants will be required to provide acceptable evidence of their vaccination status, immunity, and any other occupational health requirements relevant to the position. Evidence must be submitted and assessed in accordance with NSW Health requirements prior to commencement.

Working with Children Check

This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance issued by Service NSW. A current and valid WWCC is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this role.
