The Role
Located on the banks of Belalie Creek along the Crystal Brook Broken Hill railway line, Jamestown is a thriving town known for its major agricultural products, which include grains, legumes, wool, fat lambs and timber. Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Manager to join their family-owned mixed-farming and fodder operation as the owner begins to pursue off-farm interests.

The 1000-hectare farm yields a range of high-quality crops, including export-grade oaten hay, wheat, and lentils. The position requires operating various machinery, completing daily farm duties, and managing seeding and harvest processes. The farm boasts four large hay sheds, ensuring efficient on-site storage as all hay is moved within the same paddock. Year-round transportation of hay to the exporter, along with the transport of grain to bulk handlers during the harvest, is made possible with a modern truck and trailer. Previous road train experience would be ideal, or a willingness to work towards it.

The ideal candidate must be able to operate and maintain both modern and well-maintained older equipment. The machinery fleet includes telehandlers, headers, seeders, spreaders, tow-behind sprayers, mowers, rakes, and balers. Knowledge and previous experience in baling and stacking hay are highly regarded, or an eager willingness to learn. Furthermore, the role involves collaborating closely with local machinery dealerships and mechanics to ensure proper equipment servicing and mechanical repairs,



fostering robust relationships within the local farming community.

As an essential team member, you will collaborate directly with the owner via weekly meetings and with agricultural consultants to coordinate the operation's diverse components, highlighting the assistance required. This role demands active, hands-on involvement and a flexible approach, as hours fluctuate with seasonal requirements. Slower periods offer opportunities for extended leave, while peak seasons require a greater time commitment and dedication.

The Ideal Candidate
This fantastic opportunity is perfect for individuals passionate about broadacre cropping, including hay, and who take pride in operating and maintaining machinery. It requires a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Candidates should value and possess the following:

- Previous experience in a similar role
- A robust understanding of the cropping and hay cycles
- Mechanical aptitude and fabrication skill
- A chemical certificate, which is highly regarded
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- A strong work ethic and the willingness to work autonomously
- Minimum requirement of an HC truck license, with an MC highly preferred, or a strong willingness to acquire one.
