As a Network Controller in Training (Distribution), you'll embark on a development journey toward becoming a qualified Network Controller, one of the most critical operational roles in the electricity industry.
Working within our Network Operations & Delivery Control Room, this role will see you delivering safe and timely network switching and access to the AusNet Distribution network, supporting planned works, responding to network incidents and developing the expertise required to make real-time decisions that impact customers and communities across the state.
This role is based in Melbourne CBD and operates within our Distribution Control Room, under the guidance of experienced Senior Network Controllers.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
Build your technical expertise in network operations, safety, and regulatory compliance
Support the safe delivery of planned work programs through network switching and access coordination
Learn to monitor,
assess and communicate network events to support operational performance, customer outcomes and network reliability
Assist with the management of unplanned incidents and emergency events in a calm, structured and safety-focused manner
Investigate network events using protection data, alarms, SCADA, ADMS and network operating information
Develop and maintain operational procedures and support the integrity of critical control room systems
Identify network risks, anomalies and opportunities to improve safety, reliability and operational performance
Review and support switching programs to ensure safe access to the network and successful delivery of works
Collaborate with experienced Network Controllers and field teams during periods of heightened network activity
Take ownership of your learning and development, building the skills and experience required to progress into a Network Controller role
What you'll bring:

Foundational knowledge of AusNet’s Electricity Distribution Network elements, operational procedures and industry standards
Understanding of electrical safety principles, including the VESI Code of Practice (Blue/Green Book) and associated operating practices
Knowledge of power system fundamentals, including AC circuit theory and network operations
Exposure to system protection schemes and electrical switching practices within a distribution environment
An ability to remain composed, focused and make sound decisions in fast-paced and dynamic situations
Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
A commitment to continuous learning, operational excellence and safety leadership
Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems (or equivalent) is highly regarded
