Position Title: Project Controller
Employment Type: Full-time
Role: Permanent
Location: Perth

Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in Project Controls, Project Costing, and Cost Control.
- Background in Engineering, Heavy Machinery, Mining, Manufacturing, Industrial Equipment, or similar industries.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6 is an advantage.
- Strong project planning, budgeting, scheduling, cost monitoring, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure project performance and cost efficiency.
Role Overview
The Project Controller will play a key role in leading the technical and execution aspects of engineering and construction projects. This role combines hands-on engineering expertise (methodologies, work packs, ITPs, planning, and costing) with leadership responsibilities for mentoring and managing Project Engineers. The Project controller ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while supporting continuous improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and review of construction methodologies, work packs, and ITPs, ensuring alignment with project requirements and client standards.
- Prepare, review, and oversee project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project (MPP), including critical path, resource allocation, and progress tracking.
- Develop cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts; oversee cost tracking and variance analysis.
- Provide technical leadership to Project Engineers, reviewing their work and ensuring documentation and deliverables meet required quality.
- Mentor and train Project Engineers in methodology writing, work pack preparation, ITPs, and planning tools.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, and consultants to resolve technical, cost, and schedule issues.
- Drive consistency in documentation standards and project controls across all projects.
- Lead tendering and bid support activities, including technical submissions and cost inputs.
- Conduct regular reviews of project progress, cashflow, risks, and resource requirements.
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and industry standards in all documentation and planning.
- Capture lessons learned, update best practice templates, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced technical knowledge of engineering and construction practices.
- Proven ability to prepare methodologies, work packs, ITPs, and cost estimates.
- Expertise in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project (MPP) for complex scheduling.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to coach junior engineers.
- Excellent commercial acumen with knowledge of project costing, cashflow, and financial tracking.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple work fronts and delegate effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including client interface.
- Self-driven and capable of delivering in a remote/WFH environment with a distributed team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
- Minimum 5+’ experience in project engineering, with at least 2–3 years in a senior/lead role.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of Project Engineers.
- Solid track record in planning (P6/MPP), costing, and documentation (methodologies, work packs, ITPs).
- EPCM experience or client-side project exposure highly regarded.
- Prior remote leadership experience is an advantage.
Pay: $100,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
