The role is placed in the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team with a broad oversight over QBE Group capital management, key financial risks (Credit, Liquidity and Market risk) and model risk management. You will fully utilise your general insurance knowledge, financial and actuarial expertise to provide insights and risk challenge in key areas including Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP), Economic Capital modelling (ECM), risk appetite setting and monitoring, and critical business processes and initiatives such as capital allocation, business planning and reinsurance placement. Given the broad coverage, you will be expected to partner with a range of business stakeholders in Actuarial, ECM, Finance capital and business planning and Group investment teams.

Your new role
- Perform quantitative modelling and analysis to form an independent view of capital adequacy and economic capital outputs used to support regulatory requirements and inform key business processes and strategies; Identify and work with the business areas to formulate appropriate and practical solutions that lead to a successful outcome.
- Lead risk challenge, deep dives and validation activities to other business areas (actuarial, catastrophe management, investments) to embed the model risk management framework.
- Provide 2nd line oversight over risk reporting, risk appetite setting and monitoring.
- Develop accurate and timely models or analysis to support FRM and business needs as required.
- Recommend and implement solutions to streamline existing processes (including controls) and develop new tools.
- Support broader FRM teams’ reporting and projects that cover financial risk classes.
- Maintain a strong network with actuarial, quantitative and data risk professionals both across the QBE Group and externally.
- Contribute to the FRM team, including ensuring that team and individual goals are balanced, tracked to support achievement, and recognised appropriately.
About you
- Partly to fully qualified Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries or equivalent
- 5+ years in general insurance ideally in actuarial areas (reserving, pricing or capital etc)
- Ability to analyse, interpret data and resolve complex issues
- Demonstrated project management skills and influential interpersonal skills
- Ability to convey and communicate information clearly and confidently to a wide audience
- Knowledge of financial markets and products and current market environment at an international level will be advantageous
- Proficient in Microsoft Products, SQL, Python, R and other data analytics tools
As an international insurer, a background in general insurance, actuarial consulting or similar backgrounds is preferred.
