Primary objective
Lead the Water Resources Division’s water resource modelling activities with particular emphasis on the provision of
modelling data and information to support assessment activities in the Division.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the department’s Water Modelling Unit and provide high level professional support and advice to the assessment,
planning and management Branches of the Water Resources Division to ensure delivery of timely outputs to meet
objectives and timeframes.
2.
Ensure water resource modelling activities are appropriate to the development, maintenance and application of water
resource models.
3. Manage and mentor a team of scientific professionals that undertake water resources modelling.
4. Provide input to, and work in collaboration with, other Branches on modelling-related projects to produce model outputs
in required formats.
5. Maintain contemporary knowledge of water resource modelling approaches, methods and software to ensure use of
leading industry techniques and standards.
6. Provide project management, planning and delivery of contracts within the division including financial, technical and
progress reports for external and internal reporting requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, an Applied Science, or similar relevant tertiary qualification.
2. High level of staff and project management skills.
3. Extensive knowledge of hydrology, hydrogeology and catchment processes in tropical and arid environments.
4. Demonstrated working experience in the development of groundwater and integrated catchment models.
5. Demonstrated experience in managing complex modelling projects.
6. Knowledge of groundwater resource assessment techniques and methodologies.
7. Capacity to communicate and interact effectively with staff, external stakeholders and people from diverse cultures.
8. Knowledge of industry standard groundwater modelling software as well as tools and utilities for efficient processing of
model inputs and outputs.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in hydrology or hydrogeology.
2. Computer programming skills.
