This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting Linux/Unix technologies. A key part of this role will be to undertake maintenance and automation activities, to encourage the continual service improvement of Linux/Unix operating systems. An important part of this role includes the management of the network design, deployment of recent initiatives and maintaining the integrity of the network and associated documentation. You will be responsible in improving the functionality, automation, reliability and performance of core applications and services.

We are looking for an experienced Unix Engineer to provide support to the various Unix/Linux Systems and supporting applications within the business.
- Perform Support tasks for example but not limited to patching, troubleshooting, Triaging of problems via escalation from operations centre.
- Provide solutions and services that strategically harness the power of Information Technology.
- Provide support and services to various internal groups, customers and third party providers.
- Keep up-to-date with technological advancements and provide suggestions for improvements to systems.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the systems and procedures by identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Work to project timelines and provide timely reporting as required.
- Highlight non-conformance of solution through Risk and Issues forum.
- Participate in an on call roster.
- Work on any other activities as directed by manager.
What you’ll bring:
The ideal applicant will have experience in the IT and Telco related arenas, administering and supporting a multitude of internal and external facing systems.
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in IT/Telecommunications.
- Vendor certification is desirable, eg RHCE/RHCOA.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Unix/Linux based system administration skills, RedHat/Debian/Solaris.
Ideally, you will also have:
- Experience with TELCO/ISP applications Web/Mail/DNS/RADIUS/DHCP/LDAP.
- Experience in virtualisation/containerisation/storage/load balancing/high availability.
- Knowledge in configuration management/automaton/cloud orchestration is desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Effective technical analysis and troubleshooting.
