Queensland Cotton Corporation has been going strong for over 100 years, supplying premium cotton to the world’s textile markets. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Olam, a leading global food and Agri business.
We are seeking a Stationary Plant Operator for a permanent position at cotton gin located in various locations in Queensland including Cecil Plains, Moura, Emerald, and Dalby.
Here are some of the responsibilities of the role:
Bale production
1. Perform Gin start up checks and run the cotton gin to optimal levels
2. Diagnose and resolve breakdowns of ginning equipment promptly to ensure downtime is minimized
3. Monitor downtime statistics and troubleshoot problems
4. Regularly clean lint cleaner bars and flues
5. Conduct different checks and adjust the operation of the gin or processes to manage fibre characteristics, seed moisture, trash waste and disposal, bale storage and seed factors and safe removal and storage of plastic module wrap.
Health and safety
1. Lead the safety culture and compliance onsite – ensure a protected system of work, assist with providing sufficient information, instruction, training and supervision and a culture of reporting,
meetings and toolbox talks.
2. Ensure Primary Procedures and Best Work Practice documents are in implemented and followed for all work tasks and documents are updated as procedures and machinery changes.
Other requirements
1. Shift work during the season
2. Travel regionally to other sites to assist from time to time
3. Complete different reports as required
4. Share feedback / inputs to help continuous improvement efforts
5. Any other task or duty that may be added by the company according to operational requirements.
Experience
1. Minimum 1 year experience in an operational environment.
Skills
1. Mechanical awareness (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) and safety mindset. Reasonable computer skills, high levels of literacy to understand safety instructions and good communication skills to work effectively as part of a team.
Qualifications
1. Valid driver’s licence and forklift licence. Knowledge of safety legislation.
Salary: $70,000-80,000 per annum commensurate with skills and experience.
