Are you a skilled administrator who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and providing exceptional customer service? Join Western District Health Service as a Ward Clerk in the Emergency Department, where you'll play a vital role in supporting patients, families, and clinical staff while contributing to the smooth operation of a busy healthcare setting.
This is an opportunity for someone who thrives on organisation, teamwork, and delivering outstanding service. As the first point of contact for many patients presenting to the Emergency Department, you'll undertake reception and administrative duties, coordinate workflow with the clinical team, and provide valuable support to the Nurse Unit Manager and key stakeholders.
This 28-hour per fortnight position includes rotating weekend work and is ideal for a motivated individual who demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, can manage a range of complex tasks, and is committed to delivering excellent care and service aligned with WDHS values.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of our dedicated Emergency Department team, you'll provide exceptional administrative support and customer service to patients, families, clinicians, and key stakeholders, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of a busy healthcare environment.
Customer Service & Patient Support —
Be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a welcoming and professional experience. Assist with enquiries, patient registrations, appointment bookings, wayfinding, and telephone communications while ensuring excellence in customer service at all times.
Patient Administration & Information Management —
Accurately register patients attending the Emergency Department, maintain and update patient records, process admissions, discharges, and transfers, and ensure timely and accurate data entry into TrakCare and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Operational Coordination —
Support the efficient flow of patients through the Emergency Department by liaising with clinical teams, bed allocation staff, ambulance services, Health Information Services, and other departments to facilitate admissions, transfers, and continuity of care.
Administrative Support —
Provide comprehensive administrative assistance to the Nurse Unit Manager and clinical team, including appointment coordination, procurement and ordering processes, medical billing activities, record management, and other departmental support functions.
Teamwork & Collaboration —
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders while contributing to a supportive and professional workplace culture.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement —
Maintain confidentiality and privacy requirements, participate in audits and quality activities, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure administrative processes align with organisational policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
Communication & Career development —
Demonstrate effective communication with patients, families, colleagues, and stakeholders, contribute to staff orientation and training, and actively engage in ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
