Northern Beaches Hospital is seeking an experienced nurse screener to join our surgical services team. This position supports the day-to-day clinical care of patients referred to the High‑Volume Surgical Hub and works in close partnership with the Coordinator and Surgical Services team to ensure smooth delivery of clinical care to surgical patients.

What you'll be doing

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Nurse Screener – High Volume Surgical Hub (HVSH) provides advanced clinical triage, screening, and coordination for patients referred for elective surgical procedures. The role ensures timely assessment of referrals, optimises patient flow, and supports efficient utilisation of surgical capacity. The CNC contributes to reducing elective surgery wait times through effective prioritisation, risk assessment, and coordination of care in a high‑volume service environment.

- Registered with Authority to Practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Minimum five years full‑time postgraduate experience with 3 years full‑time equivalent in the specialty field (e.g. surgical services, perioperative care, or triage/screening). In addition, the applicant must have an approved postgraduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards a Masters level qualification.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake quality improvement and research activities that influence and enhance clinical practice and implement change.
- Demonstrated computer skills with experience using MS Office programs and electronic filing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment, triage, and decision‑making skills in a complex healthcare workplace. Experience in surgical services, patient flow coordination, or high‑demand clinical service environments.
