The Opportunity

The Software Engineer position within the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW is responsible for the development, maintenance, and modernisation of the School’s digital infrastructure, research, and educational platforms. This includes Linux-based servers, and tools that support teaching, learning, and research. The role directly contributes to the reliability, scalability, and innovation of the School’s technical ecosystem. The role of Software Engineer reports to the Deputy Head of School (Education) and has no direct reports.

- Salary, Level 7: $113,926 - $123,302 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full Time (35 hours)
- Continuing position
- Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia (on campus attendance 3 days a week minimum required)

Skills & Experience

- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience in backend development and systems engineering.
- Proficiency in Linux system administration and server-side development.
- Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure tools.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git/Git Lab) and CI/CD practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills,



with high attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
- Experience in a higher education or research setting.
- Familiarity with containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of educational platforms (e.g., Moodle, GIVE) and LMS integrations.
