The Position

Melbourne Grammar School seeks to appoint an outstanding educational leader as Director of Learning and Research. One of the School’s most significant academic leadership appointments, the role carries whole‑of‑school responsibility for shaping the strategic direction of learning, teaching and educational research across Melbourne Grammar’s three campuses. As a member of the Whole School Executive, the Director plays a critical role in defining the School’s approach to curriculum, pedagogy, professional learning and innovation, ensuring Melbourne Grammar remains at the forefront of contemporary educational practice.

Reporting to the Headmaster, the Director provides strategic leadership across the P–12 learning continuum, ensuring curriculum coherence, evidence‑based practice and alignment with the School’s educational aspirations. Working closely with campus leaders, Heads of Teaching and Learning and Heads of Faculty, the role leads curriculum innovation, professional learning, research initiatives and the integration of technology across teaching and learning. A key priority will be strengthening Melbourne Grammar’s position as a recognised leader in educational research and innovation through the development of meaningful partnerships with universities and other institutions, while responding to emerging opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence, educational technology and student wellbeing.





The successful candidate will be a respected educational leader with significant experience leading curriculum, learning and teaching strategy within a complex school environment. The appointee will bring deep engagement with contemporary educational research, a proven track record of driving pedagogical innovation and the ability to translate strategic vision into meaningful outcomes. Collaborative, intellectually curious and influential, the appointee will build strong partnerships across the School and beyond, foster a culture of professional inquiry and continuous improvement, and inspire colleagues to embrace evidence‑based approaches that enhance student learning and wellbeing.
