Your Company
Our client is a leading commercial builder who specialises in luxury residential apartment projects. They are preparing to deliver two high-end boutique apartment projects (15 and 17 storeys in height), located 250m apart on the same street on the inner west side of Brisbane.
With both projects commencing in October / November this year, the business is now establishing the HSE team that will support their delivery. The final structure will depend on the experience and leadership capability of the successful candidate/s.

Your Job
The business is open to making one of two appointment structures:

- An experienced HSE Coordinator overseeing both projects and managing a more junior site-based HSE team; or
- Two HSE Advisors, with one Advisor taking responsibility for the day-to-day safety function on each project.

Regardless of the appointment level, this will be a hands-on and site-focused position. You will work closely with the Project Managers, Site Managers and subcontractors to maintain a practical and accountable approach to safety.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Implementing and maintaining project-specific HSE plans and systems
- Undertaking regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews
- Reviewing SWMS, permits and subcontractor safety documentation
- Monitoring high-risk construction activities and ensuring appropriate controls are maintained
- Leading pre-starts, toolbox talks and site safety initiatives
- Providing practical advice to project teams and subcontractors
- Investigating incidents, near misses and identified hazards
- Managing corrective actions through to completion
- Maintaining accurate HSE records, statistics and project reporting
- Supporting a positive safety culture through visible site engagement

The HSE Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining consistent standards across both projects, mentoring junior team members and providing consolidated reporting to senior management.

Your Experience




Commercial construction experience is essential. Ideally, you will have worked on high-rise apartments, multi-residential developments or similarly complex vertical building projects.
You will also require:

- Previous experience as an HSE Coordinator, HSE Advisor or Safety Advisor for a commercial builder
- A relevant qualification in Work Health and Safety
- Strong knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and construction compliance requirements
- Experience working directly with site management teams and subcontractors
- The confidence to challenge unsafe practices constructively
- A practical and solutions-focused approach to safety
- Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to build credibility across all levels of a project team
- Experience using Breadcrumb, Procore, Hammertech or similar.

Candidates being considered for the Coordinator position will need experience leading or mentoring junior personnel and the capability to maintain oversight across multiple projects.

This is a commercial building position. Candidates whose experience has been gained predominantly within mining, oil and gas or civil infrastructure will not have the directly relevant experience required.
