Osborne Richardson is assisting a Local Council in Queensland in its search for a Building Certifier for a contract engagement running until July 2027.
The purpose of this role is to provide assessment and approval of building applications, and to address Council's requests for information (CRs) where technical building advice is required. This work will predominantly cover Class 1a and 10a structures.
Candidates would not be required to conduct stage inspections as part of this engagement, meaning the successful candidate can work remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, assess, review and determine development applications for building works, predominantly for Class 1a and 10a structures, and concurrence agency assessments under the Queensland Development Code
- Address Council's requests for information (CRs) where technical building advice is required
- Administer the requirements of the Building Act and associated regulations, including review and assessment of building compliance matters
- Provide specialist technical advice on building matters to the public, Council and internal units
- Provide input and recommendations on Council's policies and procedures to keep them current with relevant legislation and building codes
- Develop and prepare reports on building development applications and associated issues
- Manage customer service requests, complaints and enquiries, ensuring prompt identification and appropriate action
About You
- Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification or Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying, with substantial building certification and construction experience
- Building Certifier Level 3 (as a minimum), currently licensed in Queensland by the QBCC
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Building Act and associated regulations, the Building Code of Australia, relevant Australian Standards, the Planning Act, planning scheme operation and local laws
- Demonstrated ability to interpret plans and drawings
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with a solid commitment to quality customer service
- Proven time management, planning and organisational skills to prioritise inspections, meet statutory deadlines and manage multiple compliance tasks concurrently
- Construction Industry Induction (White Card)
Desirable:
- Experience in a local government environment
- Swimming Pool Safety Inspector Licence (Queensland)
- Authorised Persons/Powers of Entry training
