The Welshpool workshop on Railway Parade spans 5000m² and is equipped with some of the state’s most advanced forming and pressing machinery, enabling complex and heavy-duty fabrication work. Role Description The Brake Press Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Perth Area at Boyd Metal Industries’ Welshpool workshop. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring brake press machines to form metal plate and sections according to specifications and safety standards. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling, performing accurate measurements, and carrying out routine machine checks and minor adjustments.
The Brake Press Operator will inspect finished components for dimensional accuracy and surface quality, document production activities, and collaborate with the workshop team to meet project deadlines. The role also involves following all workplace health and safety procedures and contributing to the continuous improvement of production processes.
Qualifications
Machine Operation and Troubleshooting skills to set up, run, and adjust brake press equipment safely and efficiently.Quality Control skills to inspect parts, verify measurements, and ensure work meets specifications and standards.Pre-press and Printing-related experience is beneficial for understanding material preparation, marking, and documentation processes.Experience in metal fabrication, plate or section forming, or a closely related trade environment.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, tape measures, gauges).Strong awareness of occupational health and safety requirements and secure manual handling practices.Reliable work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a workshop team.Relevant trade qualification or certificate in fabrication, machining, or a related field is preferred.
