Project Buildings Certifiers

Adelaide

Opportunities to join our team at this level do not come around often. Due to steady growth and long-term staff retention, we are looking for a highly experienced Building Certifier to step into a pivotal role within our Adelaide office.

About Us: Project Building Certifiers (PBC)

Established in 1995, Project Building Certifiers is a highly respected Building Certification, Structural Engineering, and consultancy firm. With offices in Adelaide, and Darwin, our highly skilled, cohesive team provides practical, efficient, and transparent solutions for local, regional, and national projects.

We work across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments, guiding builders, architects, and property owners through every stage of the building approval process. At PBC, our goal is to make complexity simple by breaking down intricate codes and compliance processes into clear steps so our clients can build with confidence. We pride ourselves on delivering economical solutions without ever compromising on compliance, safety, or quality.

The Role

Based in our Kent Town, Adelaide office, you will take on a senior position handling a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential projects. Because we do not frequently hire at the experienced level, you will be stepping into an established environment where your expertise will be trusted and highly valued from day one.

This is a dynamic, hands-on role. You will not just be tied to a desk reviewing plans; you will be actively out in the field undertaking critical stage inspections, directly engaging with builders on-site, and managing the certification lifecycle from initial concept through to final occupancy. All assessments are prepared for final sign-off by our Managing Director, meaning your judgement drives the work while the statutory responsibility structure supports you.

Key Responsibilities

Site Inspections & Field Work: Conduct thorough on-site inspections at mandatory and critical stages of construction across various residential and commercial builds. Ensure all physical works accurately reflect the approved documentation, NCC standards, and statutory requirements.

Defect & Compliance Reporting: Issue clear, actionable inspection reports and work collaboratively with builders on-site to resolve compliance issues or defects.

Assessment & Certification: Assess building plans and project documentation, preparing thorough compliance assessments and consent recommendations for productive approval.

Regulatory Advice: Provide clear, highly detailed, and accurate technical advice to designers, developers, and builders regarding the development regulatory process and the National Construction Code (NCC).

Occupancy Processes: Inspect completed buildings to support occupancy approvals and manage outstanding matters for existing structures.

Mentorship: Act as a technical soundboard within our cohesive team, providing guidance on complex compliance and on-site regulatory matters.

What We Are Looking For

Proven Experience: Significant previous experience working as a Building Certifier or Building Surveyor on both commercial and residential projects, with strong practical experience conducting on-site inspections.

Deep Technical Knowledge: Exceptional understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC)

and relevant South Australian legislation, including the PDI Act 2016.

Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or a related discipline. Current accreditation is not required, as all consents are issued under our Managing Director's accreditation. If you are working toward Accredited Professional status, we will actively support that pathway.

Communication Skills: The ability to break down complex compliance requirements into practical, easy-to-understand advice, whether you are in the boardroom or out on a construction site.

Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive approach to finding innovative, compliant solutions rather than just ticking boxes.

Mobility: A valid driver's licence for travel to and from inspection sites.

Why Join PBC?

Stability & Reputation: Join a secure, highly regarded firm that has been operating successfully across multiple states and territories for nearly 30 years.

Dynamic Workday: Enjoy a balance of in-office technical assessment and active on-site inspection work.

Team Environment: We are a close-knit, highly skilled collective. You will not be just a number here; your expertise will have a direct impact on the business.

Holistic Approach: Work alongside our in-house structural engineers and energy efficiency assessors, allowing for a highly collaborative and well-rounded approach to building compliance.

How to Apply

If you are an experienced certifier looking for a stable, highly professional environment where your expertise is genuinely valued both in the office and on-site, we want to hear from you.

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience. For a confidential discussion about this rare opportunity, please reach out to our team at the Adelaide office on (08) 8362 7***.
