About Forge Developments
Forge Developments is a Perth based property development management firm specialising in the delivery of high quality residential and mixed-use projects across Western Australia. Our portfolio spans a diverse range of projects, from luxury townhouses and apartment developments to retain-and-builds and larger subdivisions of up to 200 lots. With a hands on and collaborative approach, we guide clients and partners through every stage of the development process from site acquisition and feasibility through to design, approvals, construction, and settlement.
We pride ourselves on professionalism, integrity, and creating genuine value through well-considered development outcomes.
Town Planner Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Town Planner looking to expand into the property development space. This hybrid role combines core in‑house planning responsibilities with hands‑on exposure to the broader development lifecycle — making it an ideal opportunity for a planner seeking genuine career progression into development management.
As a Town Planner at Forge, you will lead all planning activities internally while working closely with our development team, consultants, authorities, and clients. You will help shape project concepts, guide approvals, and contribute to feasibility, design coordination, and early‑stage development strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all in‑house planning work across multiple residential and mixed‑use projects.
- Prepare, coordinate, and lodge development and subdivision applications.
- Undertake site analysis, due diligence, and planning feasibility assessments.
- Interpret and apply planning legislation, local schemes, R‑Codes, and policy frameworks.
- Provide planning input into concept design, yield optimisation,
and development strategy.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other consultants to integrate planning requirements.
- Manage communications and negotiations with councils, agencies, and service authorities.
- Prepare high‑quality planning reports, justification statements, and stakeholder correspondence.
- Support the development team with feasibility modelling, project coordination, and early‑stage design development.
- Identify planning and development risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in statutory or strategic planning, development assessment, or a related field.
- Robust understanding of the WA planning system, including R‑Codes, local planning schemes, and subdivision processes.
- Interest in transitioning into development management and gaining exposure to the full development lifecycle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing planning reports.
- Ability to interpret technical plans and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning or a related discipline.
- Experience within a development, consultancy, or local government environment highly regarded.
What We Offer
- A unique pathway for planners seeking to move into development management.
- Exposure to feasibility, design development, approvals, and project delivery.
- Opportunity to lead planning for diverse residential and mixed‑use projects.
- Collaborative, supportive team culture with genuine autonomy and flexibility.
- Competitive remuneration aligned with experience.
- Long‑term career growth within a rapidly expanding development business.
