About The Role
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the Company’s ANZ end-to-end payroll ensuring compliance in line with legislative requirements. This role is accountable for holding the highest standards of trust, accuracy, timeliness and reliability to meet the business objectives in all payroll activities. This role monitors and manages payroll processes, whilst developing new processes and implementing new systems to improve efficiency of the payroll function. The Payroll Manager works closely with HR and other key stakeholders as required to ensure required payroll outcomes are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process end to end fortnightly and monthly ANZ payroll in an accurate and timely manner to ensure high compliance with legislative requirements consistent with business objectives.
- Complete the following payroll activities:
- Process PAYG and STP, superannuation/kiwi saver and other insurances,
- Produce payroll related month end and ad-hoc reporting as required,
- Prepare for review and submit state payroll taxes monthly,
- Onboarding and offboarding of employees.
- Update approved changes to employee data or other information in the applicable systems to ensure accurate payroll outcomes.
- Manage payroll schedule of activities to meet all required timeframes.
- Responsible for fielding and resolving enquiries from supervisors, employees or key stakeholders.
- Process deductions, garnishee, and other payments as required for e.g. novated lease arrangements.
- Manage payments for workers compensation and ACC cases.
- Reconciles payroll records to understand variations and proactively resolve any inconsistencies.
- Liaise with key stakeholders including line managers to resolve outstanding items for example timesheets, leave, overtime approval or other payroll cutoff impacting matters.
- Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of the position.
- Review payroll process, document and maintain procedures.
- Identify and introduce improvements to existing payroll processes.
- In collaboration with key stakeholders, participate in projects to improve the efficiency and reliability of the payroll function including systems.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Sound knowledge of Australian and New Zealand employment and payroll related legislation, including terms and conditions of employment, leave, superannuation/Kiwisaver, taxes etc.
- Knowledge of Fair Work Australia requirements, with experience interpreting National Employment Standards, Modern Awards, policies and procedures, and employment agreements and relevant New Zealand employment terms.
- Applies legislative and policy knowledge to support compliant, practical, and risk-aware people decisions.
- Experience using Payroll software and interface with HRIS platforms.
- Experience with Time and Attendance keeping and Payroll system projects.
- Advanced skill level of Micropay system.
- Previous experience implementing a time & attendance system.
- Advance knowledge of payroll related tax and super processing and reporting.
- Proactive, adaptable professional with strong interpersonal skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Confident working with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and levels across the business.
- Demonstrated initiative and practical problem-solving capability.
- Uses Microsoft Office tools to maintain accurate records, manage workflows, and support operational reporting.
- Advanced communication skills supported by sound emotional intelligence.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
- Versatile and adaptable across systems and applications to support smooth and efficient operations.
- Bachelor Degree in Business - Commerce highly regarded
