Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 + Superannuation + Performance Bonus
Role Overview
The Client Lead/Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for managing a portfolio of small and medium business clients while overseeing the delivery of high-quality bookkeeping, compliance preparation, and client support services.
Working closely with the Directors and accounting team, this role combines senior bookkeeping responsibilities with proactive client relationship management. The Client Lead/Senior Bookkeeper plays a key role in ensuring clients receive accurate financial information, timely compliance support, and guidance to help improve their business operations and financial processes.
The role includes management of Xero files, payroll processing, BAS and IAS preparation (for review and lodgement by senior staff), reporting, workflow coordination, client communication, and support with year-end accounting processes.
Experience with law firms/ trust accounting or NDIS related businesses will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
This role requires strong technical bookkeeping knowledge, attention to detail, leadership qualities, and professionalism when dealing with clients and confidential financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Client Management & Advisory Support
- Manage a portfolio of bookkeeping clients across a range of industries
- Act as a key point of contact for client communication and support
- Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and follow-up
- Assist clients in understanding their financial position and business performance
- Identify opportunities to improve client systems, workflows, and bookkeeping processes
- Support the Directors with maintaining high-quality client service standards
Bookkeeping & Financial Management
- Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for client files
- Maintain accurate Xero files and bookkeeping records
- Perform bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable functions where required
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end bookkeeping procedures
- Prepare files for accountant review and year-end processing
- Maintain efficient bookkeeping systems and internal workflows
Payroll & Compliance
- Process payroll accurately and on time
- Manage superannuation obligations and payroll compliance requirements
- Prepare BAS and IAS working papers for review and lodgement
- Maintain compliance with GST, payroll, and bookkeeping obligations
- Ensure client files remain compliant and review-ready
Reporting & Business Support
- Prepare business performance reports and KPI reporting for clients
- Assist clients in understanding cash flow and financial performance trends
- Provide support to clients around Xero reporting and bookkeeping systems
- Work collaboratively with the accounting team to support client outcomes
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain organised and accurate digital records
- Support ongoing improvement of internal bookkeeping systems and workflows
- Utilise software including Xero, Dext, Hubdoc, Xero Practice Manager, and related systems
- Assist with workflow coordination and process documentation
Skills & Experience
- 3+ years bookkeeping experience within a bookkeeping firm or public practice environment preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Xero is essential
- Advanced proficiency in Xero reporting capabilities is required
- Experience with Xero Practice Manager (XPM), Dext, Hubdoc, or similar systems highly regarded
- Strong understanding of GST, BAS preparation, payroll, and superannuation compliance
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Solid attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively
- Professional communication and client relationship skills
- Ability to take initiative and manage workflow independently
