The School of Arts and Humanities

The School of Arts and Humanities is one of the largest at ECU with over 5,000 individual students across many diverse disciplines covering the broad sweep of arts, humanities, and social sciences. About the Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic to contribute to SAH’s Indigenous Knowledges initiatives and curriculum development, and contribute more broadly to teaching and research, guided by ECU’s Cultural Narrative Framework.

You will become part of the Social Science, Social Work and Youth work cluster and join colleagues who have a critical engagement and heart for community development and social change. Working from that cluster, you will help strengthen and grow the Indigenous Knowledges presence across the school,



working closely with the school’s Academic Lead (Indigenous Knowledges).

You will play a key role in teaching our unit “Decolonising Perspectives: Understanding Self and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples”, an innovative second-year unit that develops students' capacity for reflexivity, ethical engagement and culturally responsive practice. The unit invites students to critically examine their own cultural narratives and ways of knowing as the foundation for respectful relationships across cultures. You will also contribute to teaching in our social work, youth work and community and human services courses.

This appointment is one of SAH’s contributions to achieving ECU’s strategic goal to strengthen inclusion, elevate Aboriginal leadership and achieve excellence through equity.

Alongside this we will guarantee research time and depending on your academic career stage either support you to complete or start PHD studies:

Level A; We will support you to undertake PHD studies.

Level B: If you are already studying a PHD we will support you to complete it.

Level C: We will guarantee research time to build your research scholarship.
