Key ResponsibilitiesDefine DERMS strategy, target-state architecture, and transformation roadmaps aligned with utility decarbonization and distributed energy integration objectives.Act as the subject matter expert for DERMS platforms and DER orchestration capabilities including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicles (EVs), demand response, microgrids, and virtual power plants.Lead DERMS platform assessments, capability maturity reviews, fit-gap analysis, vendor evaluations, solution optioning, and technology selection for utilities.Design and govern DERMS solution architectures supporting DER forecasting, optimization, dispatch, aggregation, flexibility management, and network constraint management.Define integration architectures between DERMS and utility operational platforms including ADMS, SCADA, EMS, GIS, OMS, AMI, market systems, and enterprise data platforms.Enable grid-edge intelligence by integrating DERMS with analytics, AI/GenAI capabilities, forecasting engines, cloud platforms, and advanced decision-support systems.Define business capability models, operating models, governance frameworks, and DER participation models for future-ready distribution network operations.Provide architecture leadership, stakeholder advisory, solution assurance, and executive-level guidance across DER and grid modernization programs.Support business case development, regulatory submissions, RFPs, presales solutioning, vendor engagement, and thought leadership initiatives.
Required Experience
15+ years of experience in utility distribution operations, grid modernization, OT/IT architecture, energy transition, or digital transformation programs.Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, integrating, or modernizing DERMS platforms within electricity distribution environments.Strong understanding of distributed energy operations including network hosting capacity, DER aggregation, demand response, flexibility services, and grid-edge orchestration.Experience with leading DERMS platforms such as GE GridOS DERMS,
Schneider Electric DERMS, Siemens Grid Software, Oracle DERMS, AutoGrid, Smarter Grid Solutions, or equivalent technologies.Proven experience integrating DERMS with ADMS, SCADA, EMS, GIS, AMI, OMS, market systems, forecasting platforms, and enterprise applications.Ability to translate regulatory, operational, and technology drivers into executable DERMS strategies and transformation roadmaps.Experience in consulting, stakeholder advisory, presales support, solution architecture, and executive communication for complex utility programs.
Preferred Skills
Deep knowledge of DERMS architectures, DER control frameworks, interoperability standards, and utility integration patterns.Understanding of DER communication protocols and standards such as IEEE 2030.5, OpenADR, IEC 61850, IEC CIM, DNP3, and MQTT.Experience with virtual power plants (VPPs), flexibility markets, transactive energy models, and distributed grid optimization use cases.Strong understanding of renewable energy integration, BESS, EV charging infrastructure, and microgrid control systems.Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, enterprise data platforms, advanced forecasting, AI/ML, and digital grid technologies.Knowledge of OT cybersecurity, critical infrastructure resilience, and operational risk management practices.
