About the opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Project Controls Lead Planner to lead and elevate planning capability across Altrad Australia, supporting major construction, maintenance, shutdown, and industrial projects across multiple sectors and regions.

Reporting to the Head of Project Controls, this functional leadership role will be responsible for establishing planning standards, strengthening governance, improving reporting capability, and building planning maturity across the business.

This opportunity will appeal to experienced Planning Managers, Lead Planners, Principal Planners, and senior Project Controls professionals who are looking to step beyond individual project delivery and influence planning performance, consistency, and capability across a broader organisation.

This is not a traditional project planning role. Acting as Altrad Australia’s planning authority, you’ll provide strategic leadership, technical guidance, and assurance across tenders and projects while supporting executive decision-making through forecasting, schedule analysis, risk management, and portfolio-level insights.

You’ll work closely with operational leaders, project teams, commercial stakeholders, estimators, and clients to ensure planning is integrated with estimating, cost control, risk management, and project delivery.

Key responsibilities:

- Lead the planning function and drive continuous improvement in planning performance.

- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and support to planners across the business.

- Develop and maintain consistent planning frameworks, processes, and methodologies.

- Establish schedule assurance practices to improve quality, accuracy, and reliability.

- Review and provide guidance on tender and project schedules.

- Support project mobilisation, baseline development,

forecasting, and reporting.

- Identify schedule risks and lead recovery strategies for projects requiring intervention.

- Improve integration between planning, estimating, cost control, commercial, and project delivery teams.

- Facilitate schedule risk reviews, scenario analysis, and forecasting activities.

- Provide planning support for delay analysis, EOT assessments, and claims.

- Govern Primavera P6 standards, reporting systems, and schedule data integrity.

- Deliver portfolio-level insights and reporting to support executive decision-making.

- Drive innovation and digital improvements across project controls practices.

About you

You are a senior planning professional with a strong track record of delivering complex projects and improving planning outcomes across construction, maintenance, shutdown, mining, energy, infrastructure, or industrial environments.

You combine advanced scheduling expertise with commercial awareness, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to influence teams at all levels of an organisation.

You will have:

- 12–15+ years’ experience in planning and project controls across construction, maintenance, shutdown, mining, energy, infrastructure, or industrial environments.

- Advanced Primavera P6 capability with demonstrated expertise in schedule development, analysis, and optimisation.

- Experience leading planning improvements, governance initiatives, or planning transformation programs.

- Proven ability to support multiple projects, programs, or portfolios.

- Strong understanding of project controls integration, including estimating, cost control, forecasting, and reporting.

- Experience managing schedule recovery, critical path analysis, and project performance improvement.

- Exposure to delay analysis, disruption assessments, claims, and Extension of Time submissions.

- Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring and developing planning professionals.

- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence operational, commercial, client, and executive audiences.

- Experience with Power BI,

reporting automation, schedule analytics, or digital project controls solutions will be highly regarded.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on how planning is delivered across Altrad Australia, influencing project performance and building a stronger project controls capability nationally.
