About the OpportunityAn exciting prospect exists for experienced Principal Java Software Engineers to support a Federal Government agency responsible for Australia's maritime safety and emergency response capabilities.
Working on the agency's mission-critical NEXUS platform, you'll contribute to systems that support maritime and aviation search and rescue operations, as well as pollution response activities. You'll join a highly experienced development team responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing enterprise-scale Java and AWS cloud solutions that underpin operational services across Australia.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications and backend servicesDevelop and support AWS cloud-based solutions and integrationsBuild and maintain RESTful and SOAP web servicesDesign and implement Oracle database solutions, including data modelling and stored proceduresDevelop and maintain web-based user interfaces using ReactJS, HTML and CSSProduce detailed technical documentation and solution design artefactsContribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Jenkins,
Git and MavenPerform software releases, testing and continuous improvement activitiesProvide technical advice and support to senior technology stakeholdersParticipate in a shared on-call support roster for critical production systems (historically very low call volume)
Skills & Experience RequiredMinimum 8 years' experience developing enterprise Java applicationsStrong experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, JPA and HibernateExperience developing RESTful and SOAP APIsStrong Oracle Database experience including SQL, PL/SQL and data modellingExperience with AWS services including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS and CloudFormationExperience with ReactJS, HTML and CSSStrong understanding of Git, Maven, Jenkins and CI/CD practicesLinux/Unix administration and Bash scripting experienceDemonstrated commitment to software engineering best practices, automated testing and technical documentationExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skillsWillingness to participate in an on-call roster supporting a critical operational application
