Fujitsu Oceania is expanding its application modernisation capability with a dedicated focus on AI-assisted and agent-driven approaches. We are seeking an experienced Lead Modernisation Architect to drive the technical strategy and delivery of modernisation engagements across our enterprise and government customer base.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a practitioner who thrives at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and advisory. You will work directly with customer codebases, lead modernisation assessments, shape transformation roadmaps, and deliver tangible outcomes for customers navigating complex legacy environments.

Working within Fujitsu's Applications business, you will help establish and refine our modernisation methodology, validate emerging AI-assisted tooling in real-world settings, and contribute to building a market-leading modernisation capability across Australia and New Zealand.

About the Role

Technical Delivery & Modernisation

You will:

- Lead end-to-end application modernisation engagements from assessment through delivery and transition.

- Conduct hands-on application portfolio assessments, analysing legacy codebases, technical debt, dependencies, and modernisation opportunities.

- Create actionable and prioritised modernisation roadmaps aligned to business objectives.

- Evaluate, configure, and apply AI-assisted modernisation tools across customer environments.

- Design and build agentic workflows that automate code analysis, documentation generation, and modernisation planning activities.

- Define target-state architectures leveraging cloud-native, microservices, API-first, event-driven, and containerised approaches.

- Develop and continuously improve repeatable modernisation methodologies, frameworks, and delivery patterns.

Advisory & Customer Engagement

You will:

- Facilitate modernisation workshops and discovery sessions with CTOs, Enterprise Architects, Application Owners, and technology leaders.

- Translate complex legacy technology challenges into practical and achievable transformation strategies.

- Support pre-sales activities through solution shaping, estimation, technical leadership, and customer engagement.

- Present findings, recommendations, and strategic roadmaps to senior customer stakeholders.

Capability & Offering Development

You will:

- Standardise delivery learnings into reusable frameworks, templates, assessment models, and reference architectures.

- Contribute to the creation of intellectual property, accelerators, and modernisation assets that strengthen Fujitsu's market offering.

- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to apply AI-assisted development and agent-based approaches.

- Mentor and support team members as the modernisation practice continues to grow.

About You

Essential Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Significant hands-on experience modernising enterprise applications through re-platforming, re-architecting, or legacy transformation initiatives.

- Deep understanding of legacy technology environments, including monolithic architectures, tightly coupled services,

legacy integration patterns, and technical debt challenges.

- Experience assessing complex application portfolios using code analysis tools, dependency mapping, architecture reviews, and quality metrics.

- Strong architecture expertise across cloud-native, API-first, microservices, event-driven, containerised, and Infrastructure-as-Code environments.

- Experience working with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including migration and deployment strategies.

- Strong DevOps capability, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation, and modern engineering practices.

- Experience working with enterprise or government customers within consulting, qualified services, or large-scale transformation environments.

- The ability to operate across the full engagement lifecycle, from advisory and assessment through to delivery and knowledge transfer.

- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- A pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset with a strong commitment to delivering measurable business value.

Desirable Experience

We would also value:

- Experience with AI-assisted development, code analysis, automated refactoring, or software modernisation tooling.

- Knowledge of agentic AI concepts, including LLM integration, orchestration frameworks, RAG architectures, and multi-agent systems.

- Familiarity with Australian Government security and digital frameworks, including PSPF, ISM, and Hosting Certification Framework requirements.

- Knowledge of application portfolio management approaches and technical debt measurement frameworks.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 12 months, you will have helped:

- Deliver modernisation engagements that achieve measurable customer outcomes.

- Establish a repeatable modernisation methodology, including assessment frameworks, tooling playbooks, and delivery templates.

- Validate AI-assisted and agent-driven approaches through practical customer engagements.

- Support growth opportunities through technical leadership in customer workshops and pre-sales activities.

- Build strong customer relationships and deliver referenceable success stories that support long-term growth.
