The opportunity
An opportunity is currently available for an experienced and motivated Auto Electrician to join our team.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Auto Electrician to join our rail equipment manufacturing and maintenance team. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in vehicles and related machinery. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and productive operation of electrical components in line with industry standards, company guidelines, and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems in rail vehicles and equipment.
- Perform diagnostics and repair electrical faults in wiring, control systems, motors, and other electrical components.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Install and wire control systems, including switches, relays, fuses, and circuit breakers.
- Inspect and test electrical components to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Conduct routine maintenance and provide recommendations for improvements and preventive measures.
- Ensure all work is carried out following relevant health and safety regulations and electrical codes.
- Assist in the assembly, modification, and commissioning of new and refurbished rail equipment.
- Document and report all activities, including part replacements and repairs, for record-keeping and compliance purposes.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and other trades to resolve multi-disciplinary technical issues.
- Must be able to work flexible hours when required, including occasional overtime or weekend shifts.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Trade Qualification as an Automotive Electrician or equivalent.
- Experience working with electrical systems in heavy machinery, rail vehicles, or the automotive industry.
- Strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, including control systems and diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with relevant electrical safety regulations and best practices.
- Experience with rail-specific electrical systems (desirable but not essential).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in the rail, heavy machinery, or automotive sectors.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex electrical systems, including control panels and harnesses.
- Familiarity with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems and fault-finding.
- Experience with automotive or rail-specific software tools for diagnostics and testing.
