McArthur has partnered with a proudly Australian owned furniture manufacturer in Melbourne's north-west, with a reputation for producing high-quality commercial furniture. With a strong focus on craftsmanship and innovation, our client is looking to strengthen its commitment to workplace health and safety by embedding practical, sustainable safety practices throughout its manufacturing operations.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S;) Advisor to partner closely with the leadership team and manufacturing staff to drive meaningful improvements in workplace safety and compliance on a casual on-call basis with monthly visits. This is a role suited to someone who is looking to take a step into consulting work or has capacity in their current profession to provide occasional guidance and assistance.

Initially, this position will involve more regular engagement while reviewing current practices, implementing safety systems and establishing clear procedures across the manufacturing facility. As these foundations are embedded, the role will transition into a flexible, ongoing advisory position, with approximately one site visit per month, together with on-call support as required. You'll continue to provide expert guidance, conduct safety audits, monitor compliance, assist with emerging workplace health and safety matters, and support the leadership team in maintaining a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

- Safety Systems & Compliance: Review current workplace health and safety practices, develop practical policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with relevant Victorian WHS legislation and Australian Standards.
- Workplace Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular factory inspections, identify hazards and areas of non-compliance, complete risk assessments and provide practical recommendations to improve workplace safety.
- Safety Culture & Behavioural Change: Work closely with management and employees to promote accountability, reinforce safe work practices and build a positive safety culture where procedures are consistently followed.
- Training & Coaching: Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and practical training to ensure employees understand their responsibilities, including the correct use of PPE, machinery and safe work procedures.
- Incident Investigation & Risk Management: Investigate workplace incidents and near misses, identify root causes and implement preventative measures to minimise future risks.
- Emergency Preparedness: Review and develop emergency response procedures, ensuring appropriate documentation, evacuation plans and safety processes are maintained.




- Ongoing Monitoring & Continuous Improvement: Establish an ongoing inspection and review program, providing monthly reports, recommendations and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high safety standards.

Our Successful Candidate Will Have

- Demonstrated experience as an OH&S; Advisor, Safety Consultant or similar within manufacturing, construction, industrial or heavy industry environments.
- Solid knowledge of Victorian Workplace Health & Safety legislation, compliance requirements and risk management, with experience developing and implementing safety systems, policies and procedures.
- Proven experience conducting workplace audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence protected behaviours, hold employees accountable and engage confidently at all levels.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline, with a proactive, hands-on approach to delivering practical safety solutions.
