The Company

Our client is a well-established manufacturing business based in South-East Melbourne, specialising in structural and fabricated steel solutions across a range of industries. With a strong reputation for quality, safety and delivery, they are seeking an experienced Production Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations and drive performance across the workshop.

This is a 5 days per week onsite leadership position suited to someone who enjoys being on the floor, leading teams, solving problems and continuously improving how production is run.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the production function, leading a team of approximately 25-30 employees across multiple shifts.

This role will suit a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and can effectively balance production demands, resource planning, safety, quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

Based in South-East Melbourne, this position requires a solid workshop presence and a proactive leadership style.

Responsibilities

- Lead and manage a team of 25-30 production employees across shifts
- Drive safety, quality and production performance across the site




- Coach, mentor and develop team leaders and production staff
- Implement and embed Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives
- Identify and deliver process improvement opportunities
- Support production planning, scheduling and workflow optimisation
- Monitor operational performance, productivity and costs
- Foster a high-performance and accountable team culture
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality standards

Candidate Experience

- 10+ years' experience within structural steel, pipe fabrication or heavy manufacturing environments, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or management position.
- Proven experience leading large production teams, driving safety, quality, productivity and operational performance within a workshop environment.
- Strong background in production planning, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement and workflow optimisation.
