Senior Financial Crime Adviser – Financial Crime, Australia & Asia
We are seeking a Senior Financial Crime Adviser to join our Australia & Asia Financial Crime team in Sydney. This is a permanent, full‑time role providing trusted advisory support, risk assessment expertise, and policy oversight across our offices in Australia and Asia.
Location: Sydney. Contract: Permanent, full‑time.
You will work within the Financial Crime team, part of the Recent Business Intake and Enterprise Risk function, supporting practice groups and stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
Provide day‑to‑day financial crime advice to practice groups and business units across Australia and Asia on AML/CTF and sanctions compliance obligations.
Support the ongoing maintenance, enhancement and governance of the firm’s AML/CTF policies, controls and procedures.
Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends, assessing impacts on the firm's financial crime framework and coordinating policy updates where required.
Review and assess higher‑risk clients, matters and business initiatives, and act as an escalation point for unusual activity reports and other financial crime referrals.
Conduct risk assessments and gap analyses to identify potential financial crime risks, and develop remediation plans and controls.
Support responses to regulatory enquiries, audits and surveys, and prepare evidence and briefing materials for internal and external use.
Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen financial crime risk management, operational effectiveness and the use of emerging technologies.
Qualifications
A degree and minimum 6 years’ experience in a regulated financial crime environment.
Technical expertise in applicable financial crime and AML/CTF regulations and legislation.
Excellent research and analytical skills with robust attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle complex and confidential matters with total discretion.
Excellent verbal, written and face‑to‑face communication skills.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver under pressure and to deadlines.
