The Institute for the Development of Young Leaders (IDYL) Charter School is a K–8 public charter school focused on academic excellence, leadership development, and whole-child education. We are ranked #1 in NC for student academic growth. Our school emphasizes rigorous academics, small-group instruction, and social-emotional learning to ensure students reach their highest potential. We have a K-8 campus in Durham and a K-6 campus in Raleigh (opening Aug 2026).
Position Summary
The Lead K–8 Teacher at IDYL Charter School is an instructional leader responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging, and differentiated instruction while supporting the school’s mission of developing academically solid and socially responsible young leaders. This role combines high-quality classroom teaching with grade-level leadership, helping to ensure robust academic outcomes, effective instructional practices, and a positive school culture that supports the whole child. The Lead Teacher models excellence in instruction, mentors colleagues,
and collaborates with school leadership to implement programs that support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
Valid North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility)
Experience teaching elementary or middle school students
Robust instructional and classroom management skills
Demonstrated commitment to equity, student growth, and leadership development
Preferred
Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership
Prior experience mentoring teachers or serving as grade-level lead
Experience working in high-performing or charter school environments
