Our client is a leading global proprietary trading firm and algorithmic market maker.
The firm is operating globally with major regional hubs in Amsterdam, Chicago and Sydney etc.
They are seeking an experiencedCommodities Traderto join the Sydney-based team.
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for daily, active trading across major Chinese onshore and offshore commodity markets, focusing on futures and options across energy, precious metals (including gold/silver), and base metals.
Core Responsibilities
Strategy & Execution:Formulate, execute, and scale highly profitable trading strategies across Chinese commodity spaces on commodities like energy, precious metals, base metals
Exchange Navigation:Execute trades across major Chinese mainland exchanges—including SHFE, DCE, ZCE, INE, and GFEX—alongside relevant offshore venues.
Analytical Integration:Synthesize deep macroeconomic analysis, fundamental research, and shifting geopolitical landscapes into clear, actionable trade setups.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:Partner directly with the Commodities Analyst team to translate micro-level data (supply/demand metrics, inventory shifts, shipping flows, and regulatory/government policies) into alpha-generating ideas.
Catalyst Capture:Capitalize on approaching market catalysts, sudden volatility spikes,
and structural market dislocations to generate directional and volatility-driven ideas.
Systematic Enhancement:Collaborate with quantitative researchers and technologist teams to optimize trade execution, improve data-driven decision-making, and automate/scale systematic strategy components.
Proactive Risk Management:Take absolute ownership of risk management.
Actively monitor and mitigate exposure to macro shocks, changing liquidity profiles, regulatory adjustments, and cross-border capital dynamics.
Infrastructure Optimization:Contribute to the refinement of internal research frameworks, proprietary dashboards, and trading infrastructure alongside data and tech teams.
Required Skills & Experience
Trading Track Record:Proven, successful history of trading Chinese and/or global commodity futures and derivatives, showcasing strong, consistent risk‐adjusted returns (PnL).
Market & Macro Expertise:Deep comprehension of Chinese commodity dynamics, macroeconomic drivers, and global geopolitical influences.
Regulatory & Exchange Literacy:Thorough knowledge of Chinese onshore exchange structures, specific margin requirements, compliance rules, and the local regulatory setting.
