NTT DATA is looking for a Lead Gen AI Engineer to deliver projects across AI transformation initiatives within top organisations in Australia.
The Lead Generative AI Engineer will spearhead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of cutting‐edge Generative AI solutions across multi‐cloud environments.
This role demands a blend of deep technical expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs) and proven engineering leadership to guide technical teams, optimise production‐grade AI systems, and establish robust backend architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Leadership: Lead the end‐to‐end lifecycle of GenAI‐based solutions, driving architectural design, hands‐on coding, and production deployment.
Advanced Pipeline Engineering: Architect and optimise Retrieval‐Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, manage vector databases, and implement sophisticated prompt optimisation techniques.
System Integration: Implement industry best practices for APIs, microservices, and secure backend components to seamlessly integrate AI capabilities into enterprise systems.
Prompt Lifecycle Management: Design, evaluate, and systematically tune system and user prompts to optimise for accuracy, minimise latency, and enforce safety guardrails.
MLOps & Governance: Establish model versioning, continuous testing, and real‐time monitoring workflows to track model performance and mitigate data drift.




Technical Mentorship: Provide expert‐level troubleshooting, system optimisation, and technical guidance to team members.
Required Technical Skills & Qualifications
Software Engineering Foundation: 5+ years of hands‐on experience designing, developing, and implementing scalable software solutions, with mastery of Python.
Leadership Capability: At least 2 years of experience leading technical teams or complex engineering projects.
Generative AI Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of LangChain/ADK, Prompt Engineering, and model evaluation methodologies.
Cloud Competency: Proven hands‐on experience navigating cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Modern Tooling & Dev Practices: Familiarity with next‐generation coding environments (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf), automated unit testing, rigorous coding standards review, and DevOps/CI‐CD pipelines.
Credentials: Relevant certifications in AI/ML, specialised cloud platforms, or advanced software technologies are highly preferred.
