About the Team
The School of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry and Physics comprises 26 academic staff and is expected to grow.
It delivers its own undergraduate programmes (BSc Mathematical Sciences and BSc Physical Sciences) and a Graduate Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy.
The School also plays a key role in service teaching, providing Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematical Science units across the University.
Its undergraduate majors (Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics and Statistics) are taken as second majors by students from other degrees and it contributes significantly to Data Analytics, Forensic Chemistry and Secondary Education majors.
Research in the School tends to be applied and interdisciplinary, spanning industries such as mining, agriculture, health and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to teaching, research and service activities in the physical sciences within the School.
Deliver high‐quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in at least one physical science major or course, and have the ability to deliver first‐year chemistry and calculus‐based physics.
Develop, coordinate and continuously improve units and programmes, collaborating with other schools.
Maintain a strong research program in the physical sciences and contribute to the School's applied, interdisciplinary approach.
Support curriculum development, supervision,



academic leadership and broader service activities in partnership with industry and professional communities.
Qualifications and Experience
PhD in Physics or Chemistry, or a closely related field with robust physics and/or chemistry content (e.g., extractive metallurgy, materials science).
Evidence of a national independent research profile in the physical sciences – high‐quality research outputs, competitive funding, HDR supervision, collaborations, invitations or other indicators of research excellence.
Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging undergraduate and/or postgraduate units in the physical sciences, with capacity for foundational teaching in chemistry and calculus‐based physics.
Experience in developing contemporary curricula in the physical sciences, engaging with academics from outside the discipline.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
