Internal Audit at the University of Sydney sits at the heart of governance—providing independent assurance, insurance management and investigations across one of Australia's most complex and dynamic institutions.
We work directly with senior leadership and the Senate Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee; our work is seen and our findings matter.
About the opportunity
In this role, you will undertake risk‐based internal audits and reviews across a wide range of University activities and processes.
Your work will focus on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of internal controls, minimising risk, supporting compliance, and enabling the successful achievement of the University's objectives.
You'll also contribute to high‐quality reporting that drives real and measurable improvements across an organisation that is dynamic and complex.
TheInternal Auditorwill report to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit and will collaborate closely with colleagues across the team, external service providers and the broader University community.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Contribute to building and continuously enhancing high‐quality internal audit services,



aligned with the International Qualified Practices Framework (IPPF)
Plan and deliver internal audits and reviews across the University's activities, systems and processes, in line with the Internal Audit Plan
Collaborate with the Senior Manager Internal Audit and Senior Internal Auditors to effectively prioritise work, adapt to evolving stakeholder needs, and successfully manage audit timelines
Leverage data analytics, visualisation tools and technology to strengthen audit planning, fieldwork and reporting, using data‐driven insights to highlight risks, controls and emerging trends
Develop clear and practical recommendations that address control gaps, reduce risk, and improve systems and processes
Draft high‐quality audit reports that drive improvements in University activities, operations and processes and provide meaningful insights
About you
Hold a valid National Police Check
Experience working in large, complex environments such as higher education or the public sector (highly valued)
Proven ability to use data analytics to enhance audit reviews and deliver meaningful insights
Genuine curiosity and commitment to continuous learning, staying up to date with industry developments and emerging trends
Demonstrated capability to undertake risk‐based audits across a range of activities, processes and operations
