Role Description
The Fibre Optics Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Brisbane, QLD.
This role is responsible for installing fibre optic cabling in new homes, including pulling, routing, and terminating fibre in accordance with industry standards and project specifications.
Day-to-day tasks include splicing and testing fibre, configuring basic network hardware, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and performing maintenance and repair on existing installations.
The technician will read and interpret construction plans, collaborate with site supervisors and other trades, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and complete job documentation and reports.
The role also involves interacting with customers and builders to explain installation outcomes, resolve issues, and support high levels of service quality.




Qualifications
Hands-on experience with fibre optic cable installation, splicing, and termination, including use of fusion splicers, OTDRs, and other test equipment.
Knowledge of basic networking concepts, including configuration of routers/switches, structured cabling standards, and network troubleshooting.
Robust technical skills in reading construction drawings, understanding building layouts, and planning cable routes in new home builds.
Skills in fault finding, diagnostics, and performing maintenance and repair on fibre and related network infrastructure.
Commitment to safety practices, including working at heights, using power tools safely, and complying with site WHS/OHS requirements.
Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with builders, site managers, and team members.
Relevant trade qualification or certification in telecommunications, fibre optics, or a related field; industry-recognized fibre optic training is highly regarded.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various sites across Brisbane and surrounding areas as required.
Ability to work independently in the field, manage time and tasks efficiently, and adapt to changing project priorities.
Previous experience in residential or construction environments is an advantage.
