Our client is a global energy technology business delivering advanced battery energy storage solutions for utility-scale and industrial applications. With a growing project pipeline across Australia and the broader APAC region, the business is seeking a System Engineer to support the design, integration and delivery of large-scale energy storage projects.
This is an opportunity to join a technically driven organisation at the forefront of the energy transition, working across complex BESS projects from early-stage design and tendering through to commissioning and handover.
The Role
As a System Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful integration of battery systems, power conversion equipment, medium-voltage infrastructure, controls and grid interfaces. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, customers, EPC contractors, consultants and suppliers to develop technically compliant, secure and commercially viable energy storage solutions
Key Responsibilities
Review customer specifications, tender documentation, technical requirements and grid connection obligations.
Define and coordinate the overall BESS system architecture, including battery systems, PCS/inverters, MV transformers, switchgear, SCADA, EMS, PPC, communications and auxiliary systems.
Prepare and review technical documentation including single-line diagrams, datasheets, system layouts, design calculations, compliance matrices and technical proposals.
Manage technical interfaces between internal engineering teams, EPC contractors, OEM suppliers, consultants and customers.
Support tendering activities, technical clarifications, bid submissions and customer discussions.
Ensure system designs comply with Australian standards,

project specifications, grid requirements and internal engineering standards.
Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, performance testing and technical issue resolution during project delivery.
Assist with technical troubleshooting across electrical, controls, communications and system integration issues.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, design standards and technical documentation.
Provide technical support to project management, sales and service teams as required.
About You
You will be a practical and commercially aware engineer with experience in utility-scale renewable energy, BESS, substations, power systems or grid-connected infrastructure.
You will ideally bring:
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in BESS, solar, wind, substations, microgrids, power conversion systems or grid-connected electrical infrastructure.
Understanding of medium-voltage electrical systems, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and electrical balance-of-plant equipment.
Exposure to PCS/inverters, SCADA, EMS, PPC, control systems or industrial communications.
Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, technical specifications and engineering drawings.
Experience coordinating technical interfaces across multiple suppliers, contractors and engineering disciplines.
Exposure to grid connection requirements, commissioning, testing or performance validation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with customers and technical stakeholders.
A willingness to travel to project sites when required.
