The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Principal Project Engineer to lead the delivery of major maritime infrastructure projects that support the safe, sustainable and effective use of Western Australia's coastline and navigable waters.
As a Principal Project Engineer within the Maritime Directorate's Project Delivery Branch, you will play a pivotal role in directing and managing complex civil and maritime engineering projects from planning through to delivery. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, provide specialist technical advice, oversee budget, procurement and construction contracts, and build strong relationships with stakeholders across government, industry and the community.
We are seeking a strategic values-driven leader who can:
Lead a complex, high‐value projects, with a strong grasp of project management fundamentals, sequencing work, prioritising project staffing and other resources across multiple projects.
Work closely with Finance professionals on forecasting, reporting, carryovers and financial governance of capital works program budget.
Build and lead a multidisciplinary team, and where technical perspectives may differ, using strong people‐leadership and communication skills to navigate challenges, set expectations and hold open, honest and constructive conversations.
Influence effectively in complex environments,
working within and developing governance structures, project working groups and across stakeholder networks with calm authority and sound judgement.

The Ideal Candidate
The panel will be assessing applicants against the following suitability requirements:
A relevant engineering degree and eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia.
Extensive knowledge and experience in project management of civil and/or maritime related infrastructure projects.
Extensive knowledge and experience in procurement and construction management for engineering works contracts.
Highly developed interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Ability to lead and manage project team members as part of a larger multi-disciplinary project team.
