About the role
We are looking for a talented and motivated Environmental & Planning lawyer to join the Practical Guidance team at LexisNexis on a full-time basis.
The primary purpose of this role is to develop and maintain high quality, up-to-date, practical legal content on Environment & Planning law, with an increasing focus on optimising and enhancing content for our cutting‐edge AI‐powered legal workflow and research solutions.
You will play a key role in shaping how lawyers interact with Practical Guidance, Australia's most established and trusted 'how-to' of legal practice, by:
Creating, reviewing and maintaining plain English, workflow driven Setting & Planning content
Using AI assisted tools to improve speed, consistency and usability of content
Working closely with technology, product and editorial teams to embed legal expertise into AI enabled legal solutions
Ensuring content reflects real world legal practice,



market developments and emerging trends
Provide support to help build brand awareness and influence market share across clients and stakeholders
Requirements
3+ years PQE in Australian legal practice
Experience as a practicing environment and planning lawyer in Victoria, NSW or Queensland
Litigation experience is advantageous. This is in relevant specialist environmental, planning and/or land courts and tribunals (particularly in relation to planning and development appeals)
Strong knowledge of planning, development and environmental regulatory frameworks
Experience advising on administrative, environmental, planning and local government law
Excellent communication and plain‐English writing skills
Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
Aptitude for building and fostering relationships with a range of diverse clients and local and international stakeholders
Desirable experience
Experience in
one
or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
Transactional experience advising on environmental and planning law issues, including legal due diligence
Land use planning, zoning and development assessment
Environmental and planning approvals and referrals,



including under the EPBC Act
Waste law and circular economy
Biodiversity, heritage or vegetation clearing issues
Renewable energy projects
Judicial review or merits review proceedings
Climate change, ESG or sustainability‐related legal issues
