Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).

SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in **** and trains to be running by ****.
Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.
Purpose of the role
This role is responsible for providing engineering support on one of Melbourne's largest infrastructure projects. Working within the Tunnelling team, the Project Engineer will be expected to confidently make decisions when required, assessing safety, risks, and opportunities, particularly during periods of limited supervision. The role will also involve leading and mentoring a team of Site Engineers to ensure successful project delivery.
The Key Responsibilities Of The Role Include
Support the planning and delivery of tunnelling works in accordance with design, methodology and program requirements.
Provide engineering support to construction teams, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications and standards.
Review construction documentation including ITPs, work packs, methodologies and drawings.
Assist in the identification, development and implementation of technical solutions to address construction challenges and site issues.




Monitor construction progress and support reporting against project milestones and program requirements.
Demonstrate sound engineering judgement and confidence in assessing site issues, risks and opportunities, considering safety, quality and program outcomes, and make informed decisions when required.
Provide guidance and support to Site and Shift Engineers, contributing to the effective delivery and coordination of engineering activities across the works.
Support quality assurance activities, including inspections, hold points, testing requirements and construction records.
Manage technical queries and liaise with design and project teams to ensure timely resolution of engineering matters.
Support risk identification and proactively elevate engineering and delivery concerns to senior project personnel.
Maintain accurate project documentation and engineering records.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across tunnelling operations.
We Are Looking For Someone With
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 1 year experience as a Project Engineer on TBM tunnelling projects.
Demonstrated experience working on major infrastructure and/or tunnelling projects.
Sound understanding of TBM operations, tunnelling methodologies, quality requirements and construction processes.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
Solid communication, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
Demonstrated ability to assess construction risks and support practical engineering solutions in a live project environment.
